Readiness Questionnaire

Purpose

This questionnaire is an invitation to pause and reflect on how you experience your emotions, relate to others and stay connected to your body. It helps us understand the strengths you already bring and where a little more support or pacing might be helpful.

There are no right or wrong answers and it isn’t a test. Honest responses simply help us create an experience that feels safe, respectful and well-suited to you. It’s not a diagnostic tool — it’s a guide to thoughtful, ethical and trauma-informed facilitation.

Why This Matters for Working with Horses

Horses pay close attention to what is happening in our bodies. Rather than relying on words, they notice breathing, posture, muscle tension, focus and emotional state. As prey animals, they’re naturally sensitive and respond quickly to changes around them. When we feel calm and steady, horses tend to relax and engage; when we feel anxious, overwhelmed or disconnected, they may become alert or move away.

This is why emotional awareness and self-regulation matter in equine-assisted work. When you can notice your feelings early, stay present in your body and slow down when needed, communication becomes clearer and safer for both you and the horse. You’re always welcome to pause, ask for support, or take a break. Listening to your body and honouring your limits is a sign of emotional intelligence — not weakness.

Instructions

Please read each statement and choose the number that best describes how true it is for you most of the time, not just on your best days. Try not to overthink your answers; your first honest response is usually the most helpful.

Your results will help suggest an appropriate entry point into this work — whether that is the full-day foundation workshop, a half-day workshop, or a 1:1 personal session. The intention is simply to match the experience to where you are right now, so it feels supportive, safe and well-paced.
